Obituaries: Aaron R. Jackson (1788-2008)

Posted By: ARJ

The Minnesota Free Press is saddened to report that the body of Aaron Jackson, former general manager of the Minnesota Wild professional hockey team, has been found washed up on a Florida beach. An officer of the Miami police force discovered the body early in the morning of Friday, November 13th, and was reported to have said "The 13th. I guess it really was...unlucky for some." The colossal scream of "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" that was reported by many Miami citizens is not believed to be related to the incident, and the MPD coroner later declared that Jackson had drowned, presumably at sea aboard his yacht, the "S.S. Iron Man", where he had been vacationing after an alleged nervous breakdown dur...read more.

Wild Cut Affiliation With Houston Aeros; Nobody Cares

Posted By: ARJ

MINNESOTA (AP) - With attendances reaching an all-time low, the management of the Minnesota Wild have decide to remove their affiliation to the Mediocre Coffee Hockey League's Houston Aeros, who previously operated as the Wild's farm team.

The decision was believed to have been sparked on October 20th, when exactly eleven fans were in attendance for the Aeros' 3-2 victory over the Rochester Americans. Aeros goaltender Michael Black remarked after the game that it reminded him of his years playing in the ECAC with Princeton, who were legendary in the league for failing to draw a single paying fan - this has since been attributed to the fact that Princeton is an Ivy League school and, as such, filled with nerds who wouldn't re...read more.

GM Interview: Nikki Axelson (Tampa Bay Lightning)

Posted By: El Burri

Since returning to the DFCHL, Nikki has been quite active reshaping the Lightning through trades and shopping top players aggressively to land additional picks. So Nikki, how does it feel to rejoin the DFCHL after such a long time overseas?
It feels great. Having spent quite many seasons overseas has been really useful to me, both on a personal level and on a professional level. To return and help Tampa Bay to the top is a great honor and a task that I am really looking forward to.

The Tampa Bay Lightning were built to perform now but never quite managed to be a real force in the playoffs and a youth movement now seems in order. Do you believe your former experience as a co-GM in Columbus ...read more.

LA Kings Player Spotlight: Mike York

I would like to welcome my loyal readers to the inaugural edition of my new column, Players Spotlight. This column will seek to increase the exposure of a frequently overlooked DFCHL franchise in the Los Angeles Kings, since no one wants to interview their piece of crap GM. Today’s column will focus on veteran center, Mike York.

Mike is one of only 3 players on the LA Kings roster who was with the team when current GM Asa Brown took over. After spending the last few seasons as the team’s top line center, Mike was moved to the 3rd line for the majority of this season, as coach Luc Gauthier chose to give recently-acquired rookie Heimo Vilkuna the chan...read more.

GM Interview: Audun Bjerke (Calgary Flames)

Posted By: El Burri

Audun Bjerke, GM of reigning DFCHL champions the Calgary Flames took a few minutes to talk about his team. The Flames are again on top of the Western Conference and many hockey pundits are predicting a repeat for CGY. However, things didn't look that easy at season start. How did you react to the retirements Jan Hrdina, Chris Pronger and Patrick Lalime?
Well, it wasn't such a big blow. Lalime was signed as a UFA to tutor Greg Carter, who by the way is looking solid as ever this year and Jan Hrdina was an expendable third line centre which could be replaced. Chris Pronger was a heavier blow though as he was a bona fide defender. Fortunately the retirement of the mentioned pl...read more.
